Jean Rigaux

° 16 juni 1935 Justus Lipsiusplein Overijse - † 16 december 2008 Justus Lipsiusplein Overijse

Jean Rigaux is a very versatile artist from an artistic family. For more than four generations the Rigaux family has produced talented artists and writers. With the influence of his uncle Louis Rigaux, himself an artist and photographer, Jean enrolled in the art academy of Brussels.
Louis Rigaux remained an important supporter and source of inspiration for Jean.

Jean Rigaux received classical training as a painter and draftsman which allowed him to explore many avenues of expression. His early works reflect a traditional Flemish style, over the years he worked Cezanne-like concepts out and integrated cubism and impressionism elements into his work.

Since 1977 Jean has continued to develop his own exciting style. He discovered colour as the exclusive vector for his pictorial message. In the 80's his work took on a surrealistic tone. In the early 90's Jean's creations took an abrupt change into the abstract. The layering and overlapping of colour with line structures and transparent colour varnishes gives the feeling of intensity and depth.

In addition to his paintings, Jean Rigaux has also created tapestries and stained glass windows that can be seen in the St.-Martinus church in Overijse.
